3 Elopement Myths Busted | Oahu Elopement Photographer

As an Oahu elopement photographer on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii; I am happy to bust some of those common elopement myths. A quick overview of what is an elopement.  Elopements are between the couple, or the couple and a few close family + friends.

Elopements just cut out “fluff” and is a day catered to YOU two and whatever fills your cup.

Undoubtedly elopements have really become a lot more popular since the pandemic and really have shown couples how much more intimate and satisfying an elopement can be. As a result, there are a lot of myths around elopements, and well I’m here to bust them for you.

1: Myth: Eloping means it’s just the two of you.

FACT: Absolutely not! First of all, you two make ALL the rules. Secondly, eloping is an intimate space with as little or as much tradition as you two want. It could be just two, or you two plus 10-20 of your closest people. I do think anything over 20-25 is now considered an intimate wedding.

2: Eloping is selfish

Fact: No! This is all about YOUR day. Whatever you and your significant other want to do, will be the best idea. In addition, at the end of the day you’re getting married to each other, and no one else. This is YOUR love story to write.

3: Myth: Eloping is cheaper than a traditional wedding

Fact: Eloping can add up quickly. If you’re going for a destination elopement there is flights, hotel, car rental plus coupled with all the wedding things (wardrobe, hair and make-up, florist, dinner, etc). Therefore as you can see eloping can be as luxurious as you two want it to be.

Set up a private and epic dinner, under some twinkle lights with a private chef. Rent out your favorite restaurant for a few hours, rent an air BnB and celebrate your way. Or have a luxurious picnic with an amazing catered meal, just the two of you. Your ceremony space could consist of a beautiful arch made out of florals. I could keep on going, but without a doubt eloping doesn’t mean it’s cheaper. Just because you’re eloping doesn’t mean you can’t go big!! No matter what it’s still YOUR day.
