From Hawaiʻi to Long Island and destinations beyond, I’ll bring a calm presence, a well-packed camera bag, and a very good eye for what’s happening around you.
Olowalu Plantation House is a Maui wedding venue that I love for many, many reasons. It’s a stunning venue with oceanfront views and an open-air feel that photographs beautifully, but the thing I love most about it is that it’s a space that naturally encourages connection and presence.
If you’re looking for a wedding venue that feels as good as it looks, Olowalu Plantation House in Maui is one you won’t want to miss. Here’s a Maui wedding photographer’s guide to everything you need to know about planning a wedding here that feels easy to live in – from general venue information to timeline considerations, plus a peek into a real wedding I documented here.

An Overview of Olowalu Plantation House on Maui
Olowalu Plantation House is situated right on the coast of Olowalu Beach on Maui, on a plot of land with beachfront views, open lawns, and a charming cottage that can be used as a getting-ready suite for the couple.
It’s a wedding venue that has thoughtful inclusions and a layout that makes things flow smoothly. There’s a set space for every moment of your day that feels natural, so that transitions never feel rushed, unguided, or awkward for you or your people.
If you’re considering a wedding at Olowalu Plantation House, here are the main details to know about the Maui venue:
Maximum guest capacity: 200, unless a higher capacity is approved prior to the wedding
On-site accommodations: No, but there is an estate home that can be used for getting ready, and it’s conveniently located to hotels in Launiupoko
Indoor and outdoor venue options: Outdoor only

Important Things to Know About the Maui Wedding Venue
When you’re planning a wedding here, note that you must have a coordinator. Personally, this is something I love because it contributes so much to the flow and overall experience of the day, so that you’re focused on staying present and not on logistics. For other vendor requirements, you should contact Olowalu directly to get the most accurate, up-to-date information.
Also, even though the venue can hold up to 200 guests (in a regular package), the parking lots can only hold up to 60 cars. If you’ll have more than that, consider booking a shuttle from the venue’s list of transportation vendors.

How an Olowalu Plantation House Wedding Feels
As a Maui wedding photographer, it’s important to me that every couple and every guest feels welcomed, supported, and cared for on a wedding day. And I see how the hospitality that Olowalu Plantation House brings to wedding days makes you and your people feel exactly like that.
I notice how parts of the venue, like the open space, the careful plans, and the thoughtfully designed spaces, leave room for the small moments to unfold, like a parent watching from across the room, a friend fixing a veil, a grandparent laughing during dinner, and a quiet pause before the ceremony begins. And as a Maui wedding photographer, those are the moments that I love to be able to step back, notice, and capture, even if you don’t see them happening yourself.
Who a Wedding Here is Right For
Another thing that stands out to me about Olowalu is that weddings feel lived-in and completely personal every single time I photograph them here. The venue does a great job of letting their couples be expressive, both through design and through a well-crafted plan. I love noticing how weddings here can be exciting and bold or intimate and relaxed, and it fits in perfectly either way.
At the end of the day, if you’re someone who wants the feeling of you and your people being able to have fun, feel connected, and be completely present in every moment that’s happening, Olowalu Plantation House will work for you, no matter the size or style of your vision.

How an Olowalu Plantation House Wedding Photographs
With that being said, Olowalu fits my photography style well. I’m a Maui wedding photographer who wants my couples to experience their wedding without feeling pulled away from it, so I step back, observe, and thoughtfully document the small moments, stepping in for gentle guidance when needed.
Since Olowalu makes people naturally settle, it gives me great photo opportunities that focus on honest moments over posed perfection. You’ll see a lot of your guests watching you as you say your vows, you hugging friends that you haven’t seen in a couple of years at cocktail hour, and people wiping away tears during toasts. When the venue lets people relax, it translates into your gallery.
When it comes to guided portraits, Olowalu is something special. With beach access and uninterrupted views of golden hour sunsets, couple portraits feel romantic and nostalgic. You can see how I capture moments like these for a gallery that feels layered and honest in my wedding photography mediums guide.

A Real Olowalu Plantation House Wedding
If you’re looking for inspiration for an Olowalu Plantation House wedding that’s beautifully designed, meaningful, and emotional all at the same time, that’s exactly how Shema and Sammy’s unfolded.
Everything about the day felt authentic and honest, from their private first look and vows (on a garden path surrounded by trees) to the reception that was full of joyous, connected moments and a sunset that felt like it was made just for them.
Their oceanfront ceremony had their family and friends woven into it, with thoughtful guest experiences and traditions that were important to the couple. Seeing these two surrounded by the love of their favorite people in a setting like this was truly something special.
Afterwards, they had a coastal, Hawaiian-inspired cocktail hour that was a lot of Shema and Sammy mingling and catching up with their people. When venues and timelines give a couple space and time to actually hold conversations with their loved ones, I notice how relaxed and settled they feel throughout the day. There’s no rush – just ease and presence, all day long. The reception had a family-style dinner that encouraged so many hugs, so much laughter, and thoughtful toasts that made emotions run high.
With around 35 guests, there was room for Shema and Sammy to genuinely spend time with the people they’d invited throughout the day. Intimate weddings at Olowalu Plantation House are always a great fit, because it makes days feel smooth, slow, and full of intention, just like this one did.

How Much Does an Olowalu Plantation House Wedding Cost?
Pricing can change pretty quickly based on season, guest count, and package inclusions, so I always recommend reaching out to the venue directly to get the most accurate amount. Their website currently says that prices start at $9,000 for a weekday wedding that can hold up to 50 guests.
You can find up-to-date information on their wedding packages page to find the package and pricing that most closely aligns with your vision.
A Sample Timeline for an Olowalu Plantation House Wedding
Your planner will always be your go-to for all things wedding-timeline related, so while I don’t recommend copy-and-pasting this exact timeline, here’s a sample of one that I’ve seen work well for real weddings that don’t feel rushed at Olowalu Plantation House:
1:30 pm — Getting ready + details
2:30 pm — First look + private vows
3:00 pm — Couple portraits around the property
3:30 pm — Wedding party + family photos
4:15 pm — Couple tucked away / final touches while guests arrive
5:00 pm — Ceremony
5:30 pm — Cocktail hour + candid guest coverage
6:30 pm — Reception + first dance

7:30 pm — Sunset portraits (adjust based on actual sunset)

8:00 pm — Open dancing

The Best Time of Year for an Olowalu Plantation House Wedding
Timelines will also depend on the time of year, since sunsets can be earlier or later in the day. If you’re trying to settle on the wedding date that feels right to you, here’s what each season feels like at Olowalu Plantation House:
Spring: Spring brings warmer days with softer light, but also, typically, a higher chance of rain. In spring, the sun usually sets around 6:45 pm, and sunset skies give us gentle light that’s great for romantic portraits.
Summer: Summer on Maui feels lush and vibrant, and sunsets during this time of year are incredible for portraits. The sun hits its golden hour peak usually around 7:00 pm during the summer months, which falls perfectly on a timeline for beach photos. This is also the time of year with the lowest average rainfall, so your backup plan isn’t usually needed.
Fall: Fall feels slow and relaxed for Maui weddings, and while it doesn’t get chilly, the temperatures do get slightly milder. Note that the sun does set a little bit earlier in the fall (around 6:00 pm) and average rainfall is higher, so plan for lighting considerations on your final timeline and have a Plan B, like a tent, ready to go.
Winter: The milder temperatures stay throughout winter, but this is also when the weather gets the most unpredictable with the highest average precipitation. It’s good to have a backup plan throughout the year, but especially in Maui in the winter. I always recommend having a tent, just in case it gets rainy on your wedding day. The sun still sets around 6:00 pm during the winter months, which is important to plan for on your timeline if you’d like sunset photos.
Leslie Carbajal | Maui Wedding Photographer
As a Maui wedding photographer, I’m always paying attention to the reactions, connections, and passing moments on a wedding day. I know when people need guidance, when a timeline needs structure, and when a moment needs space. That balance, especially when paired with the ease that a great venue like Olowalu Plantation House brings, helps couples and their guests relax, which leads to more expressive portraits, natural reactions, and photographs that feel open and unguarded.
Whether your wedding is at Olowalu, somewhere else in Maui, or halfway across the world, I’d love to be there to document it honestly and authentically. You can inquire about booking me here.
